Tips on how to prepare your dog, cat, horse or other pet for hurricane season and evacuation!
Living in Florida makes it hard to drive with your pet with the windows down in the summer time. Make sure you point the A/C towards your pet so it doesn't get car sick. Please remember that if you are going to run errands, that it is cruel to leave your pet in a hot car and sometimes even fatal. It doesn't take long for the heat of your car to be dangerous. It is better to leave your dog at home and only take your pet for a drive if you don't have to leave the car, like at the bus stop when picking up the kids. May you and your pet have a healthy, happy summer!
Have you ever looked closely at a cat’s eye? Cat’s pupils are usually vertical. If you ever see a cat with round pupils, WATCH OUT! That means your cat is frisky and may pounce, scratch, or bite. The cat may want to play at these times and if your cat has it’s front claws, you have to be quick. The best toys are catnip toys and cat strings. Dilated pupils can also be a sign of aggression, fear, excited to be fed, and excited to see another cat or human friend.
Starring at the cat’s eyes can make the cat feel threatened and uncomfortable. Two cats will out stare each other to resolve a conflict. If you know of a person who doesn’t like cats, they may say that cats like them. The reason for this is that the person afraid of cats will not usually look at the cat in the eyes. The cat will feel comfortable around this person and come over to greet them.
A relaxed cat will yawn and often have a sleepy eyed look. If you ever get a change to look at a cat’s eyes from the side it’s amazingly beautiful. They can see you from the side too! They have great peripheral vision.
